Large BC gaps can be dangerous, especially to bystanders.

I shot a S&W 1917 with excess BC gap a few weeks ago and had to dig a piece of copper jacket out of my left ear. The forcing cone was boogered up and shaved a piece of copper off that flew backwards. Bled like a stuck pig.

I'm not sure I'm saving anything if I count the cost of my time I spend reloading. (Even figuring minimum wage. Yikes!) The big plus for me is the fantastic tailored accuracy I can dial in for each rifle and pistol.

I had a .41 Blackhawk and one in 357 Mag. The 357 is cheaper to feed so, I sold the .41 . Like with an automobile, buying a gun is only the initial investment. Feeding it is what can get expensive.
