AR's are very versatile

You can get the carbine config. for defense or plinking. You can get a bull barrel flattop and hunt varmints with it. You can load appropriately and hunt small deer with it. You can put the appropriate upper on it and shoot NRA highpower rifle, you can put a larger bore upper on it such as .50 Beowu...

While Zeiss/Leica/Swarovski may be the best, some of the better Nikon and Pentax models were said to be "just as good" but 1/2 or 1/3 the price. But if a person can afford the best and will use them for a lifetime, then go for it. Anyway, I'm cheap so I ended up getting one of the better P...

metallurgy

For tools like knives and spears, you have to determine what the use is and then reach a compromise between hardness and ductility. For instance if you take a piece of coathanger, you can bend it into a sharp bend and it will not break, and it will be fairly easy to bend. But if you tried to sharpen...

The .45Colt is lots of fun, and very overlooked and underrated. It is great fun no matter what you are interested in, if you are using an appropriate gun for sure. 1. You can plink with cowboy loads. 2. You can bump your loads up to 800-900 fps for plinking, or even for hunting. 3. You can load JHP'...

Be aware of where the bore line is, take care when setting up and don't get in a hurry, you'll do fine.

As for a "test", I've wondered the same thing. Seems that a .22LR would be a good test.

That is totally unacceptable behavior. The odds would be high that someone else on the range would point it out to him very clearly. At any range where I've been, you do not TOUCH the guns while the range is not clear. Most ranges will not let you fool around at the bench while people are downrange....

Out of a rifle barrel you can get impressive velocities, especially in a strong gun. (Don't try this with an 1873 or similar toggle action.) In fact the result is about the same as you would get from a .454Casull handgun. The .45Colt gets a lot of attention with heavy cast bullets, but for deer I wo...
