AR's are very versatile
You can get the carbine config. for defense or plinking. You can get a bull barrel flattop and hunt varmints with it. You can load appropriately and hunt small deer with it. You can put the appropriate upper on it and shoot NRA highpower rifle, you can put a larger bore upper on it such as .50 Beowu...

It seems to me that there is overwhelming evidence that gun control at best does nothing and at worst actually increases crime. Therefore any politician in favor of gun control either has their own agenda that is not in the public's favor or they are exceptionally dumb. In my opinion no matter how a...

I did a lot of research on binocs a couple of years ago
While Zeiss/Leica/Swarovski may be the best, some of the better Nikon and Pentax models were said to be "just as good" but 1/2 or 1/3 the price. But if a person can afford the best and will use them for a lifetime, then go for it. Anyway, I'm cheap so I ended up getting one of the better P...

My daughter's church had a similar race for boys and girls alike. So I helped her build several cars. They had a category for the teachers and leaders so I built a car a couple of years. There are a lot of people that get deep into the science and technology of building these cars, and every little ...

metallurgy
For tools like knives and spears, you have to determine what the use is and then reach a compromise between hardness and ductility. For instance if you take a piece of coathanger, you can bend it into a sharp bend and it will not break, and it will be fairly easy to bend. But if you tried to sharpen...

There are a handfull of sites with ebooks
Some of them are in various ebook formats, that can be read on your PalmPilot or PocketPC.
There are other sites where you can buy ebooks to read. I kind of like having the real thing though.

The .45Colt is lots of fun, and very overlooked and underrated. It is great fun no matter what you are interested in, if you are using an appropriate gun for sure. 1. You can plink with cowboy loads. 2. You can bump your loads up to 800-900 fps for plinking, or even for hunting. 3. You can load JHP'...

That is totally unacceptable behavior. The odds would be high that someone else on the range would point it out to him very clearly. At any range where I've been, you do not TOUCH the guns while the range is not clear. Most ranges will not let you fool around at the bench while people are downrange....

Properly loaded it will equal or beat a .44mag
Out of a rifle barrel you can get impressive velocities, especially in a strong gun. (Don't try this with an 1873 or similar toggle action.) In fact the result is about the same as you would get from a .454Casull handgun. The .45Colt gets a lot of attention with heavy cast bullets, but for deer I wo...

you'll hear anything at gunshops and shooting ranges
I started shooting back in the days when Herrett and Millet (?) were inventing and using their pair of cartridges. I don't recall why they shortened the .30-30 but I would guess that they thought the powder capacity was too much for the 10" barrels that they liked. Once IHMSA got going lots of ...

Position of sights relative to bore doesn't matter that much, but trajectory does. Consider a case where you have a high trajectory, maybe a black powder rifle shooting at long distance. The barrel is pointing up with respect to the line of sight. The bullet goes up, then comes back down and hits th...

These days it is almost always a Glock 23. I remember walking through a gun show many years ago, and handling the first mid-size Glock I had seen.
