Thanks, Chuck. B&L products were out of my price range 50-odd years ago. (B&L full page ad on page 2 of the February 1952 shows the Balvar4 at $80! Mounts were another $25. That was serious money back then...

Possibly the worst blow to the 1895 was the occasional use of 8mm Mauser ammunition in them by returning WWI vets. Belive Sharpe mentions this in The Complete Guide to Handloading.

Full box? What appears to be a modern styrofoam insert is marked 19 rounds. I'd shoot them and check out your 141. Don't think those cartridges have any real value beyond that (and of course once fired as cases to reload.)

The rifle is gorgeous. Stick with simple slings that are designed for function. Stay away from really wide slings or really heavy slings. Generally, it is impractical to carry ammo on the sling, as it can make the sling uncomfortable, the ammo can get in the way when carrying, the ammo can get dama...

actually, the more I look at it, the more I think it has to be a 94. There is no screw for the trigger bar between the trigger and the front of receive on the left side. This may be an extremely minor point. I think the model is a 36A, not 336A. Marlin may have offered rifles with these characteristics later in their mfg'g history with the 336A designation, I don't know.
