The willingness to employ your gun is vastly more important than its caliber. I actually know people who carry a gun thinking they can just use it to scare away bad guys. Those folks have already lost their gunfight, whether they carry a .45 or a.22...

During certain periods of manufacture, yes, but not the earliest nor the ones made today. You can easily look at the bore and identify which you have.

I don't mind some holster wear, but if you want to minimize it be sure you have a closely-fitted holster. More holster wear comes from shifting around inside a loose-fitting holster than from drawing and hostering.

I am obsessive about clean guns -- but not obsessive-compulsive. They get cleaned when they need it. And if I am firing lead-bullet handloads, and the fouling is bad enough to require cleaning after each shooting, then I know I have done something wrong with the load.

The only time I am well-organized is when I am actually loading. It might take me an hour to hunt everything up, but once I begin loading there is nothing on the bench except the components and tools needed to load for that cartridge.

.45-70 is a great classic cartridge. But never forget, it was the ,30-30 that put it and the other big-bore BP cartridges in the shade. They weren't stupid back in them days...
