My primary would be the Savage 99 358 Winchester but if I need some rapid fire either the M1A or my custom AR47. As for my side arm carry it would be the Sig P226 357 Sig with a high capacity round loaded up with Buffalo Bore heavy 357 Sig ammo 8)

I'd take a 16" 1894 with a threaded muzzle in any of their calibers... 8) How about in 357/44 Bain & Davis - with a fast twist to stabilize 220 grain bullets at 1000 fps... :twisted: Or an 1894 in 25-20 or 38-40 or 44-40, Wouldn't mind having one in a slow twist rate to shoot pistol bullet...

From what I have read and was told in the past the barrel length needs to be a minimum of 24" for the AI to work at it's fullest. Is that a myth or truth to that :?:

I really don't know what Savage used back then but I've rust blued a couple of older Savage and Marlin rifles. They really came out great! I think hot blue salts is quicker but the setup is expensive.

COL was 2.533. I was able to crimp right in the crimp grove. No problems chambering. RD also designed one for the x39 and 308 same type of profile.

Had JES Rebore convert my 336 30-30 to 35/30-30 for around $250.00. Got it back in two weeks. He coverts them into 38-55 as well. I think that's the cheapest route to take.

That 1:10 twist for the 250 will do nicely for the 100 grain bullets or so. I got some cast loads I want to try out soon in my 99 300 Savage and 358 Win. I'm hoping next weekend I can go out to the range but since it's a holiday weekend it might be busy, will see.

The 226 isn't a small gun to hide, and the .357 Sig has some significant muzzle snap and cost to practice. That said, it's a start. Get a GOOD gunbelt and a GOOD (quality) holster. Raven Concealment is my go-to for daily carry. I found the recoil the same compared to the 40 S&W, less than 45 AC...

For me it's really based on where your hunting. Both have valid points on the matter. I lean towards what Elmer is explaining since my shoots are less than 100 yards or so BUT there are times in the clear cuts shots can be up to 200 yards or so. Actually the charge weight was 41.5 grains of H4895. Primers were CCI BR-2. That's from several publication that I've checked that includes Zediker.

I did have JES convert a Marlin 336 to 35-30/30 awhile ago. Haven't done much shooting but that's going to change soon since I got picked for a moose hunt this October. He's a nice guy to talk to, knows his stuff and his turnaround is really quick. You won't be disappointed!
