Re: Browning model 71 Carbine
The 71 was an updated 1886 action but the 348 cartridge is a necked down 50-110 case. It failed in the marketplace because this rifle does not accept conventional scope mounts. So-called average gun buyer didn't want a heavy recoiling top ejecting elk rifle. Marlin filled this gap very nicely with ...

Re: HUNTING RANGE: HOW FAR CAN YOU EXPECT TO SHOOT?
In the Eastern mountains where I hunt,150 yds max and with all of the ridges and hollows, the norm is probably 80 yds or less. On some of the ridges I can see Deer at 400 yds or more, but it would take me an hour to get within range to make a good clean shot.

86er,
An excellent and informative discussionon on the effect of temperature on
powder burn rates and their composition.
I think you should expand the information in an article with other powder data to be included as stickey for future reference.

Luckily, for me, I have 20 boxes of W-W 200 Silvertip ammo, about 200 of those bullets and the same number of 200 Hornadys. That, plus a few hundred new brass and 100 rds reloads, plus the original owner's dies came with my gun several years ago. No need for anything to do with the .348, except sho...

Big Bear, The problem with the lever drop could be with a worn friction stud or weak stud spring. If the rifle has been used alot, some times the stud channel gets dirty and gumed up and won't let the stud release fully. Could be a combination of all of the above. Very easily fixed. Check the front o...
