No .. it's an old long-action .45 ... maybe the civilian version of the 1917? I am not really very familiar with the old S&W guns.

from this morning... Paco holding his old S&W .45. This gun was a total wreck, missing the hammer and other parts. Someone had tried to chrome-plate it and totally messed the gun up. Gary Reeder took it and completely restored it. It took a year or more to hunt down some of the missing parts but...

Thank you Sixgun. I found a hand so the only other thing I am gonna need is a set of grips. I can get those from Numrich ... BUT .. I am waiting to see if can get the old thing running. I did figure out how the "auto ejector" works and got it going. :D

Another in a series of HarryO's articles from the old Sixgunner.Com site. Again, this is from years ago and some data will be outdated. Thanks for looking. I appreciate it. I pushed couple .375" round balls through the barrel to see how badly the pitting marked them. Then I pushed a 160 gr. RNFP .38/.357 bullet through the bore and was surprised to find that the .358" bullet was a very tight fit! The .38 S&W is listed ...

Jim, you took on a serious project with that little revolver -- in that shape. If the pitting near the muzzle does affect accuracy, could you counterbore it? I probably could. I don't plan to shoot anything but round balls in it so we will see what happens if/when I get that far. Sometimes pitting ...

I am about at the point to start putting it back together. There are pits in some of the chambers but there is no problem getting the shells in and out. There is pitting on one side of the rifling at the muzzle and we will see if that hurts accuracy much. ;-) IMG_4848.JPG The big problem is the cyli...

Loading Black Powder in the 38-40 by Harry O I started loading black powder (BP) cartridges the first time between 35 and 40 years ago. I was told by several older (and wiser?) people at the time to just fill the case to where the bullet compresses the powder about 1/8" when seated. It wasn't ...
