Re: 480 Achilles ... Making Cartridges

Wow 480 this would scratch my 50 cal itch. How do I get one, who wants money? Gary Reeder (www.reedercustomguns.com) built the originals. He has the tooling to ream the chambers and everything else. You would have to supply him a base gun to work on. And you would have to make the ammo from scratch...

Re: Iver Johnson Champion 12 gauge has joined the accumulation .....

Picked one up from a yard sale for the same price years ago. Come to think of it - that was over 20 years ago. You got a great deal. The one I picked up needed the spring that actuates the locking mechanism. Took it to a gun smith for repair. It took him ages to do so. Finally gave the ticket to my ...

It's about to change here, for the worse. Going from 10 meters down the hall to just about 8 meters tops. We're about an hour from the range so trips out there require planning and a serious investment in fuel. Twice a month to the range is about tops most months.

There's a reason for the old saying, "Keep your powder dry". Blackpowder kept dry has basically an unlimited shelf life. Don't know what effect getting damp then then being dried out has on it, but it'd still be dangerous even if it's lost some potency.

The lowly 410 (called a 36 down south) has probably accounted for more Brazilian game than all other gauges/calibers combined. Years ago 25-35 was all but a dead cartridge. Brass was non-existent and factory ammo expensive. Rich Hoch loaned me his 7mm neck size only die and I did up a couple of boxes from 30-30 by doing it in two stages, first neck size in the 7mm then in the 25-35 die, trim to length and load. The carbide type of dies definitely make reloading straight wall cases easier. Going to the four die set with a separate...
