Re: Strange marking on Winchester 92 Carbine?
I have looked and haven't found them. They are on an archive drive somewhere around here. If I find them, I'll let you know. Mine were marked identically to the pictures posted in this thread, though.

Re: Strange marking on Winchester 92 Carbine?
Michael, I did a quick search on my two reference books on FALs and they don't go into markings on the Argentine guns. Thought I might be able to find you a primary source. With that said, you see the mark on the left rear side of a lot of Argentine FAL lower receivers. You can see it in pictures in...

Re: Strange marking on Winchester 92 Carbine?
Mystery solved. The marking is a stamp from the Argentine arsenal FMAP-Rosario. It is sometimes seen on FAL parts kits from FMAP. I recently saw an FAL lower receiver with the exact same marking stamped on it, which led me to talk to FAL guys about the marking and bingo! These guns must have gone th...

I may have pictures of one of them. They would be archived on a separate drive from my main computer at this point. If I find them, I'll let you know. I don't remember serial numbers, but, if I have pictures, I should have pictures of the serial numbers.

Interesting this is resurrected now, as I was just talking about these guns with a friend at a gun show today. I don't think you can tie them to something in Europe based on what info you have. I've taken 6 whitetail deer with a 240-grain XTP out of a rifle. Longest shot was 75 yards. Shortest was about 30. Four dropped where they stood. One ran 20 yards. One ran 25 yards. It is my go-to hunting bullet in .431".

Those are original gutta percha 1st Gen stocks. The Colt address on the insides of the panels didn't come about until the 2nd Gen stocks. You did quite well on the price. I would have happily paid that if I needed a set.

Re: FS in NC - Marlin 94 in .44-40
Just an fyi, Your rifle was put together using a musket receiver, in the mid 1920's. The sling eye "notch", in the receiver is the dead giveaway, of a musket receiver. The "star" dates it to the 1924/26 era. The holes, in the top of receiver, are factory. They're for a Hepburn s...

Lucked into this gun at a pawn shop, although I certainly didn't steal it. He didn't know much about 86s, but he sure made a good guess on his price, IMHO. :) Has blue left in protected areas and CCH left in non-exposed areas (under the wood, etc). Though the metal doesn't have much finish left, it ...

I sold a gun that sounds similar to this one for $700 earlier this year, but it took several weeks to get a buyer. Mine was a rifle, though. I imagine his price is pretty close to top end of market. If you can get him below $700 and it turns out to be a shooter, you'll be pleased.

Re: Strange marking on Winchester 92 Carbine?
If it is an Asian mark, it would have to be pre-WWII, since all the observed guns so marked have fallen in the 1916-1919 SN range. Quite a few LEO used 32-20s in the old days. They were powerful enough to kill a human and were quite accurate because of their flat trajectory. They were also easy to hold on target. Some of those 92's were rough as a cob. My Rossi 92 44-40 was a rough one to start. It took a lot of work. Now it is a real shooter. I concur with Noah's numbers. The "unissued" No 4 Mk IIs will bring some bucks. I had several in the wrap that I sold over the last few years for various reasons. I got over $700 apiece for them in the wrap. Removed from the wrap drops the price $200-300.
