A true thing of beauty! I love old trains and always have. My dad spent most of his adult life as chief electrician for the SP&S Railroad in the Pacific NW and we traveled by train often since it was free to employees. I have fond memories of those trips as a kid.

Re: What's the easiest cartridge you've developed a load for?
I'd lump all the straight walled pistol cartridges as equally easy to make up good loads. Never had an issue with any standard loads. I did work quite a bit with trying to develop very light .45 ACP loads for my S&W 745 IPSC pistol when I shot it competitively. I wanted the lightest safe load po...

I cast my own, so don't buy them. But a friend got out of reloading as he got old and gave me a box of nearly 500 Oregon Trail Laser Cast .32-40 bullets that are 170 gr. sized .322" and they're great! $62 per 400 these days, so still very affordably priced. They call them ".32 Special"...

Mine was a .35-40 Maynard chambering in my Darr barreled Rolling Block. I figured it would be a snap since I'd heard the cartridge could just be fore formed using .32-40 brass, but that idea went away quickly. I tried chambering an empty .32-40 case and it stopped 3/8" shy of chambering! I ran ...

Re: Now THIS is rifling
Deep rifling might look impressive, but it isn't doing much good for accuracy. There's so much distortion on a cast bullet being forced into rifling that deep that the lead has to go somewhere, and the place it ends up is hanging off the base of the bullets as they exit the muzzle. Those fins off th...

In my experience the benefit of low SD really only comes into play at longer rifle ranges where vertical dispersion is evident by large velocity swings. I have favorite rifle loads with SD in the 20's that are more accurate at 100 yards than a different charge that has a single digit SD. With handg...

I remember that it's been said that you couldn't make a silencer work on a revolver because of the cylinder gap. You need to be careful in choosing wood for the grip style on a No.7 Rolling Block. That's likely why you see almost no originals with high grade wood. Seems like an odd thing to try to silence. Most people don't use a silencer on a revolver since the cylinder to forcing cone gap will allow noise to escape no matter how good the silencer is. Probably why it didn't see production. A good silenced semiauto .22 would be much more effective.
