Nice 1894, but didn't carbines have blued receivers and a barrel band? Yes, every Marlin 1889 or 1894 SRC I have owned had a blued receiver and a barrel band. I'm not sure how to classify this gun, as it has a carbine buttstock and buttplate, plus a saddlering, but the rest is a takedown short rifl...

Making cartridges
How many of you guys shoot rifles that require forming brass, or buying special made brass and dies in order to shoot? Seems I spend a lot of time either loading up, or forming and loading oddball ammo around here.I'd guess over half the guns I own are in some caliber I could never buy off the shelf...

If the gun was manufactured before 1968, there is no law that says you have to have a serial number on it. But at the same time, if a gun deliberately had it's numbers messed with, I do believe thats not a good thing. If you can still read it, even with a magnifying glass, leave it alone. If its a ...

?, can you make or get .44 Extra Long for the bottom one? I am really starting to get into SS rifles but allot of the calibers of the older stuff seems near impossible to get/make. JWG, The .44 Wesson Extra Long is the same as the .44 Ballard Extra Long. I already have a Ballard in that caliber, so...

I sure am sorry for what happened Mich Hunter. But I do disagree with one thing. That muzzle is just as it should be. No finish, and definitely not crowned! It looks just like the way the old guns were done at the muzzle end of te barrel to me. But aside from that, it sure seems that Wind River has ...

I've got a set of 90% inletted stocks for 39a, if you're interested in fitting new wood? Cheap and a bit nicer than original.
By the way, they were usually around 13 1/4-13 3/8" from trigger to back of buttplate.

Since we're posting new stuff!
Thought I'd post pics of the three new ones I bought from one of our fellow forum members. These are: An 1894 Marlin saddering carbine, takedown, with 20" half octagon barrel, in .25-20 caliber. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v691/marlinguy/94td1-1.jpg A 1889 Marlin rifle with 28" speci...

I love Unique in my .45 Colt, plus a lot of other calibers! It doesn't seem to be the least bit position sensitive, and gives very consistent velocites, even if it doesn't fill much of the case! The only thing I ever worry about is going too light, and not gettting a good seal on the case mouth. You...

Depends on the center punch, and the hardness of the tang. think the Henry is soft, so no problem with most punches. One thing that will make it a much easier, and correct installation is a good drill press. You can do the holes by hand, but a good press and a nice table vise on the drill press will...

They're a PITA! They are super reliable, but without a tool to pull the empties out, they will wear your fingers to the bone prying them out! Leverdude, The Volcanic IS a lever action pistol! I believe they were mostly .41 or .31 caliber, and a brass cartridge. They were finicky about cycling, and often had issues with jamming. B. Tyler Henry (of Winchester) reworked the Volcanic action into the Henry Rifle, after figuring out how to get ...

How true OTH! They were like so many extremely well made guns. Expensive. With the Winchesters selling so much cheaper, most people figured they wouldn't wear either out, so why pay more! As for weight, the Kennedy wasn't any heavier than the 1881 Marlin, or the 1886 Win. in the large frame versions...
