Yes Mike, it's just a weird rifle, and that makes it even more interesting to me! I was looking in my safe at the various pistol caliber Marlins I have, and there's only two out of ten that are standard guns. An 1888 in .38-40, and a '94 in .44-40 cal.

Like Gravertom said, take the 73 to an engraver and he can engrave the missing numbers to match the rest. I've had Dale Woody do this for me on a gun that had a repaired lower tang, which removed two digits.

I'm trying to find something as a base brass for my .32 Ballard Extra Long. Right now I'm using .32 H&R Mag brass, but it's still about .2" shorter than I need. I nhave to seat the bullets out too far, or just let them make the jump to the bore.

The .40-70SS used to be a huge pain, but since Hornady reintroduced the .405 Win. it's a snap! I just run the .405 through my dies and load them up with a new 430 grain bullet, sized to .406"
I used to stretch .30-40 Krag brass and fireform it to fit the chamber. Tons of work!

How many of you guys shoot rifles that require forming brass, or buying special made brass and dies in order to shoot? Seems I spend a lot of time either loading up, or forming and loading oddball ammo around here.I'd guess over half the guns I own are in some caliber I could never buy off the shelf...

If the gun was manufactured before 1968, there is no law that says you have to have a serial number on it. But at the same time, if a gun deliberately had it's numbers messed with, I do believe thats not a good thing. If you can still read it, even with a magnifying glass, leave it alone. If its a ...

By the way, they were usually around 13 1/4-13 3/8" from trigger to back of buttplate.

I agree with Blaine. The area where the hammer contacts the bolt is paramount to drag on Marlins, and if you only polish these mating surfaces, and then lube the contact areas with a slick oil like Kroil, you'll instantly notice a huge improvement!

Probably because they ween't big sellers to start with. Cost of making them was not cheap, since they were somewhat complex, and extrremely well built. A repro would be great, but not inexpensive if it was authentic.
