Only way to remove metal with a router is to have a good guide that will follow the channel you want to do. Without a guide it will end up a huge mess trying to freehand it.

I carry my 5.5" AWA SAA in .45 Colt as my backup. It's light enough to not be uncomfortable in a shoulder holster, and enough stopping power if I encounter a cougar or bear while deer or elk hunting.

I use my coated cleaning rods with a proper size brass jag. A good quality cleaning rod, with a soft mallet to tap works best, and wont be harmed by tapping. The only thing that concerns me Tom is the "scratch" or whatever it is lines up with the mortise cut for the bolt block that runs vertically. If it is a crack, that's exactly where I'd expect it to crack. I see the mark on the lever, but not sure it's got anything to do with the line on the receiver...
