AA 5744 works in all my pistols and most of my rifles, in 45 colt you can run from 750 to 1400 with a 255 gr bullet and 2200 in a 30-30 with a 173 bullet. Data is online at western powders. danny.

Grizz , I use a 173gr hcfngc pushed by 24.3gr of aa 5744. It's a accurate arms manual load online. Pushing 2200 fps, I wouldn't flinch from dealing with a brownie with a 30-30 and that load. danny

In my ruger I run a 255 rnfp pushed by 19.5grs of AA 5744 I get 1000 fps + and it generates 14k psi, the data is from the AA manual. If you need more bang you can load up to 28grs for 1400 fps and 30k psi. danny

Concealed carry to me means a pocket pistol so I would look for a sp101 or a charter arms and load it with a reversed 148gr hollow based wadcutter. It will punch a hole you could throw a cat through. danny

Stay with the lee's and get the 4 die set it has the fcd and collet die if your trying for match grade ammo, if not the pace setter 3 die set will work fine. danny

I believe those wooden plugs are for storing the firearm bbl down so the oil doesn't run back into the the stock and soak it. I have my granddads Ithaca 37 and it has a similar wood plug. Beartooth bullets makes a 450gr long flat nose, it's a plain base but I've not had any leading problems with their bullets in a 24" 45 colt at 32 cup. danny

Yes a lot of wolf scat on the back roads , the 2 elk calves with the cows means the wolves didn't get them all though. My neighbor called in a pack last year and whacked a big male about 700 yds from my place, big dog 120-125 lbs. danny

I ride horses and pack mules, I won't ride something that's smarter than me. I've pushed horses past ground bees and hornet nests and across rivers, cricks and steep ground to stay ahead of trouble, you cant push a mule. Good story hope your rifle stays true watch the bogs. danny

Beartooth bullets out of Idaho, low antimony so the don't shatter and flat nose to cause a cavation bubble when they hit flesh and blood. 173gr in 30 cal and 245gr in 348, can't keep them in deer or elk. In pistols the same outfit. danny

I like watching elk, you will see the lead cow give direction to the herd and see the calves running and playing. The mother's will discipline the caves with a swift kick if causing trouble. I can watch them all day it is peaceful plus I might have a chance to wack a canine that bothers them. danny

Jeepnik, the most reliable semi rifle will have a adjustable gas piston system not a DI gas tube that can get so plugged gas won't go down it. For ammo my pick is 62gr speer gold dots. danny
