Use a black powder measure to get 100 gr by Volume.. weight is about 34.2 on my RCBS 505 scale.. when loading a frontstuffer, compress the tar out of it.. with your ramrod, never really checked, but some guys use a bathroom scale to get consistent compression.. HTH.. Les

Guys, because of their slow twist, 1 in 38 inches IIRC, a lighter bullet running at higher velocities will shoot better in these rifles. I have had good grouping with 200 gr, and even 180 gr bullets and stiff loads of H110.. will kill anything you have a reason to shoot at.. HTH Les

I shot a heifer (18 mos old) with a Shilo Sharps 45-70 and a 300 gr. hp handload .. one shot five inches below and five inches rearward of the ear, dropped like a bag of rocks.. the four quarters totaled 298 lbs hanging at meat locker. DELICIOUS!! Les

1886: I have a Traditional Hunter in 45-70, excellent shooter, have taken elk, deer and antelope here in Wyoming with it.. There was another model that wore the Badger barrel, I think it was the Black Powder Cartridge Siloute (Spelling??) rifle.. but the Traditional Hunter is a Browning barrel.. HTH...

I didn't get to taste that one, but the guide had some dried/salted jerky made of sheep.. it was great! I hunted the day before I flew out to Hololulu and left a fresh ham and loin in the freezer for my landlord/host on Kaua'i. If its anything like wild boar from Texas, it's delicious!! Les

Thanks for posting those pictures, Steve. There are only two positions on the hammer, half cock and full cock.. maybe a replacement? Yeah, nice job of plugging the hole.. sure fooled me! This rifle really groups tightly at 65 yds, most clip the same hole. Action is much tighter than my Rossi Pumas.....
