Re: First rooster 2015
Great pics, Nath. Is that a Northwest Trade gun? Looks like one Barnett made to trade to the American Indians. They were smooth bore about 62 caliber IIRC. Would be an easily maintained weapon for a primitive society. Lots of history on this side of the pond.. Just wondering..

Ji, this was in North Idaho and was pretty nice weather for elk hunting. No snow yet,but it won't be long. We're at 2100 ' elevation on the St Joe River, a banana belt for this country. Borrowed his older brother's Ruger 77 300 Win Mag, shot about 200 yds and dumped him in a logging road. Backed the...

Here's Keaton with his four point bull he shot this morning. Took it with a side lever, but we'll allow it, he's young. He got a spike last year and is working his way up to one like I have in the den.

Pitchfire, thanks for this resurrection. I just dug out two of my old 45-70s yesterday. Haven't done any shooting with them for about 15 years. Killed seven Black bears in Wyoming in the late 90s early 2000s, mostly with a Marlin 95 that could be easily scoped (bears don't usually move till last lig...

Beautiful job on a classic American long rifle! I have some idea of how much work goes in to one of those. I built a 40 cal "Carolina style Poor Boy" back in the "80s" to hunt squirrels with in Michigan. My Green Mountain 42" barrel liked 30 gr of 3F behind a 390 Round ball....
