Re: Changes in PA

Unless this has been mentioned, it's amazing how many dead deer can still be seen here in PA along the roads. That's a major toll taker. Another thing that people seem to never want to discuss is how many deer are shot for crop damage. In west-central PA, one well known farmer who farms a couple th...

Re: Hornady XTP vs. Speer Deep Curl

How would you know if you can’t hunt with a pistol in NJ ?😉 MUZZLE LOADER Oops sorry missed you said muzzle loader. OP didn’t mention what type of gun. I only seen conversation about XTP and deep curl in regards to pistols. Actually he did, he said in sixgun. Friend you need to slow down and read t...

Re: Hornady XTP vs. Speer Deep Curl

Bill, the old Remington 240 semi jacket HP were amazing on deer but they made a real mess from my muzzle loader . I'd really like a soft point for most applications but hps are what they are making. Use either and should be fine on deer type critters. How would you know if you can’t hunt with a pis...

Re: Hornady XTP vs. Speer Deep Curl

I have been tempted to play with some of the Deep Curls from Speer in a hunting sixgun on the rare occasions when they make them available. Has anyone here shot them side-by-side? Is one a better choice than the other? We seem to have more field reports of the XTP -- including Jim's use of one in a...

Re: Another buckless year

I had a good 8 point on camera this morning at 340 am, I just got home from the farm and there are so many tracks I dont think a guy could follow one set and follow it without going in circles. Bill I use either my Lyman 54 , my TC Encore or my Knight- both are 50s. It's now bow/muzzle loader/permi...

Re: Another buckless year

One and only pic I got was back in late September. Snowed overnight so when I get over there later today I'll get eyes on the ground and see what I find as for print sizes. Sadly the farm is covered with barberry, multi floral rose and autumn olive- no way to get through it quietly enough to track....

Most of our deer here might dress at 150 and that big guy would probably go over 200 dressed.
Track him

Re: Another buckless year

Today at 5pm finished our six day firearms season, it used to be bucks only , in recent years the state has merged antlerless in as well. I spent the first day sitting for 11 hours in 20° weather, seeing only does and fawns. Then I sat Thursday from 10am until dark, again no antlers, 17 does and fa...

PA hunters

Mature bucks, not nice racks but dressed out buck, 200 plus. Agree that they become loners after the first week of rifle and dwell in obscure out of the way places, away from competition, does, pressure and people.

Re: Changes

I hear on the news that Maine has a big problem with crime by illegals'. It would not surprise me to learn that wholesale commercial poaching is one of those crimes. The wife and I had considered moving to Maine until we saw the crime stats. It appears that since the massive influx of Somali's that...

Re: Changes in PA

Poaching certainly happens. In PA's big woods the herds cant grow very large, not enough food. The next couple years around that clear cut you mentioned the population will rise as the cut begins to regenerate trees. The deer will eat all those seedlings( provided invasive weeds dont take over.) Al...

Changes in PA

This past October l turned 59, and see and feel subtle changes with me and drastic changes in the feild regarding less game being seen. You always get word of guys seeing a few deer here and there. Tracks along the way, more tracks then l’ve seen I quite awhile, bear, coyote, buck and doe. Can’t bla...

Re: More USPS antics!

As long as the government is involved , it will continue the same way , In the private sector you either fix it , or competition will eat you alive. Bingo! We have a winner! When you aren't required to be good at what you do then where's the incentive to do well? Yes USPS has competition, but nobod...
