Re: 45-70 Guide Gun

Gregg, No apology needed. I agree scopes of any kind don't seem to go well on any levergun. I have a number of levers but only 2 have scopes on them and they are the ones I use to hunt with. At 62, I need a little help with the old eyes, but I have taken a number of black bears, whitetail deer and a...

Re: 45-70 Guide Gun

I have to agree even if Paco doesn't agree, a varmit scope has no business on a 45-70. I use the 2.5 scout and it is more than sufficiant.[/quote] I guess you have to read the writings of Paco to get the pun of brush gun. sorry. I have to say I never tried a 2.5 Scout scope at 200 yds. I think I'm f...

Re: 45-70 Guide Gun

Yep Meeteetse I have the same problem. Lots of levers but now that i'm 62 I need a little help with the old eyesight. I guess the small compact scopes are the leeser evil of a large scope on a lever.

Re: 45-70 Guide Gun

My $0.02, . Get a smaller scope, too - like a 1-3X20 or 1-4X20 if you must have a variable. A .45-70 brush gun is no place for a 3-9Xwhatever varmint scope. OhBOY! :o Hope Paco don't see this.    http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg113/fgarnold/IM002485.jpg I have to agree ev...

Re: 45-70 Guide Gun

I too have a Leupold scout scope on my 1895G without a problem for some years now. This scope has held up using Garretts 540 gr hammerheads and everything in lighter loads. I had a Bushnell on a .270 years ago and it only lasted two years.

George, I have the same problem, I can't see worth a darn anymore. Just turned 61 and the old eyes don't work as good as they used too. I have had a Henry rifle in .44 mag for some years with the standard buckhorn on the barrel. I noticed my groups have gone to h--- the last few years. I just instal...

Yep, what everyone said. Good scope and good mounts is the only way to go. I use lo QR Leupold rings along with a Leupold scout scope with the same set-up your using, XS ghost ring.

Henry Big Boy .44 mag.

I would like to install a barrel ladder style sight in the 3/8" dovetail for the rear sight. Has anyone done this and what type did they use. There seems to be a question if there is enough room between the dovetail and the reciever of the rifle. Thanks for your help.

We don't have any Cabela's less than 3 hours away, but we do have a BPS and Gander in the area. Just for comparison, one year ago, GMT was selling Marlin 1895G for 449.00, now 599.99. The Marlin 336A in 30-30, last year 325.00, this year 489.99. Did Marlin starting using gold parts in their rifles o...

Wow< I'm surprised most all of you don't like the large loops. Actually I'm not crazy about them either but feel like I need one because I can only fit 2 fingers comfortably in the origional lever and every time I fire it the fingers outside the loop get jammed against the rear of the lever. I have ...

Large loop levers

I would like to install a large loop on my 1895G, but can't make my mind up on which loop to buy, WWG or DRC. Some reviews I have read arn't real favorable toward the WWG lever and they seem to be a little better on the DRC. Help!!! I need some opinions.
Thanks,
Fred

I don't know how poor workmanship gets out of the factory with all the inspection points they have. I don't know if I have said this before or not, but, take it from me: it happens. Think about how many different guns they make and how many get into the hands of people every year. Your experiance i...

A friend of mine just bought a new 336XLR and the action was as smooth a butter with sand in it. After further inspection, the lever had very rough welding marks and burrs on where it goes into the bolt. He called Marlin and told them of what he found. Three days latter, he had a new lever at his fr...
