Re: anyone else made 444 brass fron 3006
The late Walt Melander of NEI bullet Molds set up a mauser rifle for the 444 rimless - Walt had a different name for it but it escapes me at the moment. Several of Walts .44 caliber rifle molds were made for this cartridge. There was also an article in an early Handloader on a Mauser set up this way...

Our goal for the 110-grain bullets was 3,000fps and we met that with several powders.
The 30-30AI really shines with the 125- and 130-grain bullets from Sierra and Sspear.Accurate and affective. Our goal of 2.700-fps was easily met.

John, Sure wish I had come across a 24” 30-30 to play with. We enjoy the 26”barrel rifles as they equal the 20” 30-30AI. I have not pushed the 90-grain bullets to high speed but the 110-grain .30 Carbine bullets are fun and give good accuracy. The 110-grain bulk Remingyon bullets work as well as any...

The problems do not appear to have been caused by the tang folding or falling but rather by the stem being driven into the eye when shooting uphill. It was Paul Curtis wife who lost her eye to a Savage 99 tang sight. There were several other stories of eye injuries with the injured shooters name in the pages of The Arms and the Man and the early American Rifleman magazines. Welcome, don't post a lot but I have several tang sights. I prefer the Lyman on a hunting rifle. The Lyman sight is trimmer both upright and when folded which is nice on a snap shooting rifle. The Lyman is adjusted for windage by placing shims under the base. Easy adjustment. For a hunting rifle set...

Two good loads for the Winchester Trapper are: Lyman 311291, 25.0 gr of Alliant Reloder 7 for about 1,865 fps from the 16" barrel. Another is the Lee 170 grain flat nose ahead of 24.5 grains of IMR 4198, getting about 1,900 fps. Both loads will kill deer but i prefer to cast them reasonably sof...

I have loaded for the Improved cartridge a bit. I am impresed. 2,350 fps is an ideal velocity for the 170-grain bullets and deer. You can get another 100 fps+ from Hodgdon Varget and Alliant Reloder 15 in the 20" barrels but this is at the expence of high pressure. This is very good performance...
