Re: Hard to find Blackhawk
Probably just luck of the draw but I am zero for three with guns.com. One was an Inland M1a1 .30 carbine, which, when it arrived, was not an Inland and the stock was aftermarket. Another unrelated transaction took a month for the rifle to arrive. But they do have cool stuff, and I'm a slow learner...

Many if not most coroner's offices/morgues/medical exminer's have a sign prominently posted to remind them, "As you are now, so once was I; as I am so too will you be."

Re: 300gr 44 mag lever action load
The common 1:38" twist might not stabilize a 300 grainer at the velocities you mention. John Taffin, writing in the Nov. 2020 issue of GUNS magazine says he puts 21.5 W296 under the NEI 429.295 for 1547 fps (18.5" Marlin microgroove), and 1" groups at 50 yards, but that is a gascheck ...

In one scene that got past the continuity editor, "Mr. Smith" puts his double shoulder holster rig on backwards. But still a really good show.

Re: 400 gr bullets in a RedHawk .45 Colt
Years ago I cast 405 HPs out of a lee single-cavity mold and sized them down in stages. Shot them out of a Freedom Arms .45 Colt (because Ross Seyfried wrote that the Colt made more sense for heavy bullets than the .454 in the same platform). They were accurate enough at 1,000 fps, but I am recoil s...

Re: Favorite SAA cartridge?
They are all so cool, steeped equally in history and romance. Have only owned SAA's in .45 Colt and .38 Special, so must defer to all your individual and collective experience. And while MANY old-timers used .44-40 SAA's to good effect, I would note that no less a luminary than Jeff Milton forsook t...

Re: 45 acp sixgun
For me it's mostly a brass issue. I have maybe a coffee-can full of Colt brass, and 5-gallon buckets of ACP brass. If I lose an ACP in the field it's no big deal. Lose a .45 Colt case and we're calling out Search & Rescue for a grid search.

Jim, thank you for that. Wonderful story, and you have a gift for telling them. For the past twenty years I have read your story "Christmas Eve 1896" to my family on the night before Christmas It has become a happy and anticipated tradition. I will do so again this Saturday night (I keep t...

Re: 'Active Shooter Drills' at the kids' school...!
After Sandy Hook our agency developed a response program. The early stages of "Run, Hide, Fight." We delivered it to every school in three counties. While I think we made great progress in moving the paradigm, it was a heavy lift. Teachers rightly feel a strong sense of responsibility for ...

Re: The Ultimate Pocket Shooter?? 9oz Loaded
Well, yeah, any gun is better than no gun. But after decades in law enforcement I have learned that none of them are small enough to carry and none of them are big enough to fight with. I have never yet been in a gunfight where I wanted a smaller gun, a cheaper gun, or less bullets. But I also cheer...

Re: Win 94 Big Bore question
Many years ago I had the Marlin version. With a young family/single income and therefore limited resources, I fed it with cast bullets from an RCBS mold, and .30-30 brass necked up. Not optimal but it kept me shooting. It is a grand and fun cartridge, so if it were me (and it's not) I'd shoot it as ...
