Re: Vaquero cylinder locking up...help?
Sounds like the locking bolt is jammed. The hammer shouldn't be able to be cocked with the loading gate opened on the New Model. Unless they have changed things recently. You need to remove the grip frame to set things straight. The trick will be doing this while the mainspring is under tension.

Re: Lost my best friend today
Those Malamutes can sure find a place in your heart. Jake was given to me by my little sister for Christmas in 2000. I really didn't need or want another dog. I had to put him down when he could no longer climb the 3 steps from the back yard into the garage. That was last year. Copy of shasta and ja...

Re: 264 Winchester Magnum
I love how every one believes all of these "barrel burner" myths. They make me laugh. If you clean a barrel properly, and not over heat it, it will last just as long as any other caliber that burns a similar amount of powder, with a similar sized bore. You never hear the 270 WSM called a b...

Of course it is equal rights. Remember when you were a kid and there was only one cookie left, and you had to share with your brother? So you broke it in "half" and gave him what you thought he deserved? Then your Mom told you that whoever broke the cookie had to let the other person choos...

Re: Jacketed or lead bullets in my single-action revolver?
You don't say how hard these bullets will be. At 38 Special velocities there will be minimal expansion, or none at all with a hard bullet designed for the 357. A soft, pure lead cast bullet should give some expansion. Another option would be a swaged slug. You may even be able to find some copper pl...

Re: Vamint Bullet for a 270 WCF
As I recall, one of my most accurate loads with the 110 hp was 58 grains of H4350. It was a bit hot though. They de-primed themselves, and I could seat new primers with my thumb. They would fall out before I could load the powder for the next load most of the time. I wouldn't recommend that one.

Re: Vamint Bullet for a 270 WCF
For a lot of years, my only rifle was a 270. I hunted everything from potguts (ground squirrels) to elk with this old Remington 700. The Hornady 110 grain hollow point was superbly accurate, and accounted for many hundreds of jack rabbits, rock chucks, and potguts. There usually wasn't much left to ...

NEF Partner Pump shotgun
My friend has been looking for a 20 gage shotgun for his wife and daughters to use. We found the NEF Partner Pump for under $200. The store clerk claims that it is a Chinese version of the Remington 870, and that most parts will interchange. Has anyone had any experience with this gun? Good, bad, or...

The first thing that I would check is the heating element. I've gone through 4 (maybe 5) in the dryer that I have had for 20+ years. They are not hard to change, but remember to unplug it first. 220v really hurts.
For a diagnosis, remove the coil, and look for a break. It will be obvious.

They are kind of like every gun chambered in the 32 Magnum. A lot of people want them, but don't buy them until they are out of production. Then they can't afford them. So they sit around and wish for them. I wish I had one of each.

My #1 was at an EPW camp somewhere in Saudi Arabia in 1991. I was sitting in my gun tower, just minding my own business (reading a book and listening to my Walkman), when an A-10 Thunderbolt II came out of the valley just west of me. He was fully loaded, and they can really sneak up on you quietly. ...

Re: Your dream six gun, lever gun combo
Here's one that I'll probably never see. A Ruger SingleSix SSM reworked with a to a wildcat that I have dreamed up, but never built. It is a .277 caliber (I'm a bit of a 270 fanatic) based on a blown out, shortened 22 Hornet case. Custom cast flat point lead bullet of around 70 grains should get to ...

Well Mr. Madman, I think you missed the most important part of my post. The part where I said "With comparable bullets". If you load the 41 and 44 with bullets of the same construction and same sectional density, each will kill anything that the other will. I seriously doubt that any anima...

Re: OT: Where's the love for the .41 magnum
I like my 41 because it is different. It will do everything that a 44 will. Yes, I said that. It will do everything that a 44 will. Two hundredths of an inch of bullet diameter isn't enough to matter in the real world. With comparable bullets, the 41 will kill anything that the 44 will. I like my 41...

Your dream six gun, lever gun combo
I've always had a hankering to put together a classic combo six gun/lever gun. There was the Ruger Single Six SSM/Marlin 32 H&R mag that I never got around to buying when both guns were in production. And the Winchester 92 with the octagon barrel in 41 mag to go along with a Ruger Blackhawk with...

Re: OT-question for Ruger BH owners
I wouldn't worry about it. My 4 5/8" Blackhawk still hits pretty much everything I point it at, and my SBH shoots 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards (scoped and if I'm having a good day). Both have noticeable wiggle in the cylinder at lock up. I also noticed that when there is a case in the firing...

Re: OT - Which .22lr semi pistol for silencer work would
I would go with either the Ruger (first choice) or the Browning. I would also opt for an integrated suppressor rather than a screw on model. Then the added length is no longer (pun intended) an issue.

OT-- something I learned today (especially for vets)
I'm not sure if this belongs here, or in the politics section. If it needs to be moved, have at it. In a school district meeting today, we were told that as of 2009, military personnel and vets who were out of uniform were authorized to salute during the presentation of the colors, and during the pl...

Price check on a Marlin 1894P
I've got a Marlin 1894P that I may or may not want to part with. It has been shot, but has spent the majority of its life hidden in the back of the gun safe. It has the prettiest figure in the stock that I have ever seen on a Marlin. I have installed a Williams receiver sight, and a nylon sling. The...
