Re: Gun Value question

Pretty fair possibility it's chambered 44 Russian. It's funny this came up here. I'm on MeWe (FB alternative) and am pretty heavily involved in a lever rifle group there. A few weeks ago a member posted pics of a pawnshop find he was interested in buying and was wondering what it was. It was priced ...

Re: "52 Years Apart"

My great grandmother passed away in early October of 2001, she was in her mid 90s but I don't recall her exact age. I recall as I was in attendance at her funeral at 23 years old it dawned on me how much she witnessed in her long years. She saw a time when automobiles were in the earlier years of pr...

Hate to tell ya but.... https://taylorsfirearms.com/1873-carbine-44mag.html I just stumbled across that for the very first time just a couple days ago. I'm quite surprised by that. Re: .44 Henry Flat--Musings on the usefulness of mild cartridges

Very good perspective. I really enjoy the mild and the wild. It's nice to have options in this modern era. Our ancestors definitely got it done with impliments many people today would deem inferior or even unsuitable for game hunting, survival, and defense. But in that time those were state of the a...

The only complaint I've ever heard of about the stamped carriers on the early post-64 rifles is that they are stamped. Can't say I've heard or read about failures. But I'm just one person and I don't claim to be any sort of authority on the subject.

Talk about a topsy turvy day! But at least it ended on a good note. I had a nice little range day the other day with a pair of new to me TC muzzleloaders, one for me and one for my daughter. Both shot well but the Hawken stole the show with the best group I've ever done with a traditional smoke pole...

A very generous throat in that rifle?? I wouldn't run even moderate 44mag in any 1873. Thats just me. The modern repros are claimed to be made from stronger modern materials, but that only gets you so far. Nope, it was actually chambered for the .44 Magnum cartridge. The 94 Big Bore is chambered in 375 Winchester.

I don't know why the pic of it and a couple others came out sideways. They are upright in my library..

Wanted to add, my name is Joe. I go by the same screen name on other forums as well.

Took the 1886 in 45-90 out today

So today I finally made the time to burn some powder and send my latest test batch of 45-90 downrange with my Turnbull 1886. I have tried AA5744 as well as RL7 and both did pretty well. But AA2200 seems to show the most potential. First off I'll say that shooting 300gr JHPs at 2300fps from a bench w...

Re: Browning 1886 vs Turnbull 1886

You might like to call Turnbull to verify this, but my understanding is that the 1886 rifles they produce these days are based on the Chiappa rifles/actions. I recall reading that Turnbull had Chiappa make all the parts with the original threads (not metric), one piece firing pins etc., so that par...

I hold Big Horn Armory in very high regard as well. I've seen one in person myself. You can spec one out in all of the old school options, octogon barrel, high grade checkered stocks, and CCH finish.
