I had an Uncle who was really into it. He built steam engines and trains his whole life.
He was very good at what he did. His favorite ones to build were shay logging trains here
is one of his that he built.

People that shoot lever's are different breed of gun owner. I have all different types
of firearms everything from pumps to semi to bolt you name it I got it.
My very favorite of them all are my lever's always have been, always will.

Nath, You dont need no fancy bow. You are in the right country for a nice english war bow.
Something in the 100 pound range should work real good for your simulated hunting purposes. :D

I use a steel plate spin target that I made out of .500 inch of steel armor plate.
Works really good out to 250 yards. You know you hit it every time because it
responds with a loud ring. :D Works real good shooting the 38-55 with hard cast lead.

I love shooting longbows as much as I love shooting my guns. I have 6 longbows and recurves. They all shoot great I am kind of partial to the older bear bows. Late 1940's early 1950's This was the golden age of archery IMHO. Here is a early example of a nice clean Bear Cub bow, one of my favorites. :D

I like the 170 grain core locks. They seem to be the most accurate round out of my Marlin 336ss. My hunting partner swears by the 150's The deer he shot last year was shot with a 150 grain, Dropped in it's track and never took another step. Here is a better pic of it since I got some better light to take the photo in this afternoon.
The rack is not done yet, but should be painted in a few days along with putting the felt in the proper places.

When I was in the Marine Corp we were always using the sling to shoot off hand. We actually used it in all firing posistions. I really hated using that sling. It was actually more like a tourniquet. I have a Marlin Outfitter in 444 that is ported, it is a great gun. I like the ports
have not really noticed all the fuss about it being louder than any other gun.
For that price on a guide gun I would live with the ports. :D

I would make my first lever gun a Marlin 336 in the classic 30-30 caliber. Possibly the stainless version.
It is a high quality firearm that will out last you, and everyone on this forum.
And the 30-30 will kill much better that a 357 at farther ranges. You cant go wrong with a Marlin. :D
