Re: Anyone shoot game with XTP's?
86er, I used both 240 and 300 grain xtp bullets in my .444 Marlin. I shot 2 whitetails with the 240 at 2400 fps. Both dropped instantly with shoulder breaking shots. One exited (65 yard shot) one stayed in (85 yard shot). I salso shot a black bear with a 300 grain xtp at 40 yards (1800 fps). Broke t...

Having read tons of books since our return from Africa, by all the famous hunters, it is truly amazing that more of them weren't killed. As to the 7x57. I too took one to Africa and using 175 grain Hornady round nose soft points handloaded with 4064 and chrono'd at 2400 fps, they are Thors Hammer on...

I have a .35whelen, a ruger 77 done over by New England Custom and I absolutely love it. It does recoil quite a bit more than a .30-06, but as was mentioned in the earlier posts, it is some serious power. I handload 200, 250, and 275 grain rounds, and plan to take it to Africa the next time. Absolut...

I can't agree more with the Redfield...A classic scope for a classic rifle. I have used Nikon recently on a couple rifles and I think they are the best for the money, but Redfield is a subsidiary of Leupold...so you can't go wrong! Absolutely lovely rifle! I Must whole-heartily agree with 86er. The Benelli, in my opinion is the finest autoloader I have ever owned. A 12 guage that kicks like a 20, weighs almost nothing, and shows no signs of crud in the action after 100 rounds. What more can you ask for? I know they tend to be expensive, but they are w...

Back when I worked for Cabelas, we sold tons of 870's and 700's. It would truly amaze you what we found when opening brand new guns straight from the distributor/factory. Most were rusty, some to greater extent than others, but the quality of Remington's finish is terrible and rust is prevalent even...

Hey Pitchy, sounds like a shooter, but in my humble oopinion, 650 is too high for a gun that is not original. As an aside to safari hunting, I learned a few things specifically about guns, loads and optics. While I was sure my Marlin scout in .444. was going to be the main rifle used, and I did several stalks with it, I found that Karens rifle, a scoped 7x57, was much more appropriate for africa. I agree with the manual dial type lock. A few years ago I responded to a fire in a restuarant that was in the vicinity of the owners safe. despite it being a relatively small fire, the electronic lock on the safe was melted. The manufacturer took a long time to get the safe open.
