Even two guns of the same make and model, bbl length, chambering, etc. may not produce the same average velocity and/or accuracy. I have 6 rifles chambered in 45 Colt, bbl lengths from 17" to 24-¼", none produce the same ave. velocity, even the 3 with a 24-¼" bbl. Highest velocities w...

Many of the Cowboy Action Shooters do such a conversion of the C&B revolvers. I haven't... as I seldom attempt to align my sights at the relatively short distances we shoot at.

I spent just under 2 years on a converted Forrest-Sherman class Destroyer, removing 2 5" gun mounts and installing the Tartar missile system in their place, making it a Guided Missile Destroyer, or DDG. I arrived Jan 2, 1972 and left on Dec 5, 1973, making 2 WestPacs aboard. The Newport News wa...

My biggest concern is any ash left in the chamber. While at a match, I start reloading almost as soon as I finish a stage. Usually only takes me 3-4 shooters to charge both pistols for the next stage. As I'm charging my pistols, I'm also watch those 3-4 shooters empty their brass from their pistols ...

Jim, I ran across this kit and wondering what your opinion of it might be. It looks very complete and rather simple to use. I also wonder if you've ever used a lubed, wool wad between the ball & powder with the cartridges you make. Is there a link to the Kit? I am not seeing one. Color me pink!...

I bought a new one in 1972, 4-¾" & paid $225, including tax. It was the only one the dealer had, and I'm sure he saw my USN dungarees and fleeced me. But it was still cheaper than at the big gun store downtown! I'm sure the difference was their pre-printed price tags on everything vs. his h...

My usual pair of Colt SAAs both wear a 4-¾" bbl. I haven't shot at paper in the last 10 or 15 years... so I couldn't tell you. I do know that m7 7-½" Colt SAA is not any more accurate... I can tell you it punches smaller holes, only being a .357, vs. the pair of .45s!

While others have, I've never gotten good results from SWC bullets, I recommend getting RFN (round flat nose). You'll want flat nosed bullets in the tube magazine of any lever gun, and the rounded ogive of RFN allow smoother feeding. I tend to use RedDot in the larger calibers, I like TiteGroup, CFE...

Jim,
I've never looked at using paper cartridges as I think it's just simpler to use loose powder from the flask, a lubed wad and a round ball. But I wonder, do the paper cartridges ever leave any residue in the chamber or barrel? Or is the paper fully consumed?

Anytime I've yielded frosted bullets they're generally quite brittle. But, I'm using an alloy that gives me about 18-21 Bhn. So, they're hard to begin with, and frosting just makes that worse.
