Re: buff hunt by twisted serpent
Thanks all, yep she took this and 3 deer herself while I'm deployed, she's become quite fond of this hunting thing. I think she's getting me a black bear hunt for when I got home so the 300 savage should get a workout. Doing my best to get out of here, just a little while more to go. See you all soon.

650lbs on the hoof. Not huge..but a darn sight bigger than a deer or hog, lol. Amanda hasn't been hunting very long, this is her 3rd year. As I'm deployed to afghanistan, she's taken the chance to get out and do some things on her own, 3 deer, and this buff is a really good start for a girl who shot...

Re: buff hunt by twisted serpent
You know..for the cost I just don't think I'm going to go to a lighter solid bullet when I think a heavier one for half the price will have an advantage. Now in cals where going up in weight really won't net penetration, or won't expand the bullet (.243, .223, 7-30waters) or in situations where mayb...

going to make this short and sweet. Gf went out on a bison hunt, took the 7mm-08 with a mid load 139grn sst. About 2800fps at the muzzle. Able to get within 100 yards for the fist shot, took a couple to bring it down then a finisher just in case. Very impressed with the cal, and really think we got ...

Thanks guys, really impressed with what that 7-08 can do. I think she's got a winning combo there. I'm hoping she gets a crack at an elk with it soon. Going to have to come back in a few months and see what the 300 savage can do. And maybe hit up 86er and the group for another pig hunt. Hope to see ...

Ty all. It was a decent shot for that range. I ranged her with a laser range finder so there was no guessing, she was still, and I have a 70 yard target in my back yard I've put a few thousand shots into this year. Haven't been on much, too busy. But bow season opened and I have been practicing so I decided to get out. I'm currently shooting a bowtech heartbreaker, 60lbs, 360grn arrow with a 3 blade mech. 275fps, 56ke. Spotted a nice sized mulie doe, got within 56 yards, ranged her and let fly. I backed out as...

One could do far worse than the 41mag. Not overly more recoil than the .357s, 90% of the ability of the 44mag (which is really a .429 anyway), and a lot of class to boot.

I think it's a great round with those bullets, but I'm not really impressed with it's capabilities with the gummy tips. I've missed my share this year with my open sighted 35. I'm good out to about 150, and on a good day can keep it on the killzone of a deer sized target at 200...but not always. I just can't seem to get comfortable out past that 150yard mark with open sights.
