Cable, Thanks for the additional education! A buddy of mine has an 1876 in the same caliber as yours but it was re blued back in the 1950's. Nice feeling gun, I'm a Marlin man but still admire those nice old Winchesters for sure. The Kings patent stamping etc... sure make those old guns interesting ...

mm93, That is great that you came up with additional information!! He would have come out of West Point a Lt., and gone up from there during the Indian Wars, then maybe downsizing the military put him back down in rank???????? Kinda like Custer was a General in the war between the states then knocke...

Sixgun, Hey thanks for the great information!! Never had seen or heard of a sight like that before! Congrats on the Marlin 1893. I know you shoot the old timers in lever action silhouette. Any chance you'll be using this Marlin?? Also what kind of tang sight do you like best? I'm trying to get a cou...

Miestro-Jerry, Well you are already ahead of me! These must be your pics of your new .35 Remington Marlin 336. Looks great to me and BRAND NEW TOO!! Still see the hang tag!!!! That is a great lever gun. I just got a brand new Marlin 39AS and although I like the 1940's and 1950's guns better that thi...

Miestro Jerry, Glad to hear of your new .35 Rem. Marlin 336! I got a laugh out of the above responses. YES, we'd love to see pictures of your new lever and I agree with the above, unless our eyes have gone past the point of no return, the factory sights or a tang sight, or lastly a receiver sight wo...

R. Engman, Can see why you are pumped!! I would be too, that is a beautiful carbine. Don't forget those Winchester 1892's eject out the top, my first one I looked down at it while I worked the action and the empty hit me right in the eye!! You probably know that already though! HA! I still have one ...

Nath, Great picture and congrats on the fine results sir! Your load is almost identical to my favorite load but I use IMR4227 with the Nosler Ballistic tip. Great thing about the Hornet is that the whole country side didn't even know there was a shot and maybe a fox was down. Same way sometimes when...

Sarge, Looks like you got a good one. For about 25 years I looked down on the .308 always favoring the .30-06 and since for a lot of years an ought six was my only centerfire rifle, I always reasoned that the .30-06 was WAY better! Then I got an M1A about a year ago. Boy did that change my mind abou...

I just bought a brand new Marlin 39AS the other day. Much relieved that it is GREAT in every way. Nicest wood I personally have ever seen on a newer 39. Feeds, extracts, and most importantly ejects with vigor. I was worried about the Remington purchase of Marlin and it's effect on quality. I guess a...

Now there is a gun that is begging to be picked up and taken out for action!!! What a beautiful Winchester, and that is saying something since I'm a Marlin man. Those are some VERY COOL pictures. My mom is 87 now and homesteaded with her family 100 miles north of Edmonton Alberta in 1927. Grandpa Cotter fed the family on moose that he got with his 1895 Winchester .30-40 Krag. My cousin who bears the family name rightfully owns that old Winchester. We cheris...

I have a Hornet in the Ruger 77/22 Hornet all weather rifle. It is the rifle that I carry daily in my Jeep Rubicon as I check out my apple and pear orchards. Neil, I have a 1948 .30-30, serial number E339XX. Geez I love that little 336RC!! That gun is the definition of SMOOTH!!! I seriously marvel every time I cycle the action. I appreciate the suggestions above! My 1897Texan has quite a few thousands of rounds thru it and it began to fail to extract all of a sudden. Sure enough you could see where the hook on the extractor had broken off. So I bought a new extractor from Marlin and it didn't work too well. So I bought ano...
