Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
.
If somebody gifted me this case I guess I’d have to take me some violin lessons...
I think a ‘violin’ is stealable/expensive though, so I’m still looking for a more generic case/backpack or whatever. My “office” computer bag is great, but just not quite big enough for the KelTec...

Re: Violin Lessons...

It is funny - the little KelTec is accurate enough I really do think it 'deserves' optics, yet the gun design is more of a 'backup' gun you'd typically have some sort of 'rugged, basic, iron sight' on...
In case you are interested in trying another option, there are some 45-degree offset picatinny-rail mounts that look like HO-railroad track (thin enough they don't protrude AT ALL above the existing rail, and I've messed with trying those. One will work for a Burris Fastfire or similar tiny optic, and I don't know if they make longer ones, but two separate ones could be used for a bigger scope I suppose. Then you can fold the gun, and a 45-degree scope (or irons) on a short carbine like that is actually pretty easy to use fast and effectively.
So far what I've done with mine is just get some accessories from MCARBO - https://www.mcarbo.com/kel-tec-sub-2000 ... ories.aspx - they make some improved sights and so-on.
What started out as a "cheap truck-gun" winds up being something I think is 'better' than that, and if I'm not careful, I'll put enough money into it that it won't be a "truck gun" anymore.... I did the same thing with my SKS a few years ago; that, plus they went up in cost. Probably the same thing will happen with the KelTec SUB-2000's...
I guess if a person wants a "cheap truck-gun" you really have to find a beater, or buy TWO of whatever it is....

Doc, you can easily find a violin/viola case for 50 bucks, a piece of Styrofoam, and you can cut the foam to fit your mags, optics etc. Your SIL is in the Baroque field as I recall. Your right, folks LOVE to steal violins, guitars, guns...I travel with instruments under a blanket, and never leave them unattended or out of sight, the sun kills more guitars than Pete Townsend.

Scroll down. There are dozens of them. Some are specifically for the sub 2000. Some are repurposed. Some can be made/modified cheap (and not threatening in appearance) by yourself. Lots of options.

Re: Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
someone might be overthinking this, unless the prescription is no batteries.
there are tiny lasers around that seem to me to be more in keeping with my sub-gun, it's my main house pistol slash carbine. the laser doesn't require any kind of sight picture, so shooting from cover is easy.
i think it's cool to load 'em up with all kinds of sighting aids, but honestly, what would you shoot at a 100 yards that would require a finer lineup. is it a sniper rifle? is it a coyote carbine? where does the pistol 9mm run out of gas and bounce off of stuff?
as bad as my vision is, compared to 50 years ago, I still think i could puncture center mass at 100. little steel chickens? i don't know. head shots? maybe wait for a 50 yard target, IDK.
ANYWAY the idea of folding the little thing up with all sorts of accessories does have it's appeal.

Re: Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
Out of a 16 inch barrel, the 9mm does pick up a couple of hundred fps. Nothing like a .357, but it still gains a bit. For 50 yards on down, it is a decent self defense option.

Re: Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
agree. i just want to control my own postage stamp lot. if i have to exert control past that perimeter i have much more better options than the folding wonder.
P.S. I think that you could use stouter loads and gain something, but mine is a one purpose tool, that i hope i don't have to use. ever. but if i need it i won't be wishing i had something else

The one pictured above is in 40 S&W. The 40 S&W is about the equivalent to the old 38-40. Out of the rifles it is plenty energy at 100.

Re: Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
The .40 has quite a snap out of the Sub-2000. Load it with good self defense rounds and it seems to be pretty good for most things. With my handloads of 155 grain lead bullets and 7.2 grains AA 5, I don't feel undergunned for deer at less than 100 yards. In my home it should be all I need.Nate Kiowa Jones wrote: ↑Sun May 30, 2021 3:00 pm The one pictured above is in 40 S&W. The 40 S&W is about the equivalent to the old 38-40. Re: Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
i have looked all over trying to find one in 40 with no joy
although i would have to think hard if i found one now because i have nothing in 40, and i can reload 9mm, so the bad guys will just be stuck with smaller nails

Several years ago we used a guitar case to carry an M4 on vacation. Nobody gave it a second look as we took it through hotel lobbies everywhere.

Watched some off-duty Border Patrol officers running those little Kel-Tecs a while back at our LEO range. Pretty useful tools.

I have carried one in a reusable shopping bag without attracting attention.

Re: Violin Lessons... (Keltic SUB-2000)
I've carried various DA revolvers in-hand (index finger behind trigger for safety) simply by slipping a paper bag over them, and holding it in place with my thumb. Talk about 'ready to fire'...! When I worked in Cincinnati and my 'commute' was on-foot from a ghetto-area hospital inpatient pharmacy back home at 2 a.m. walking about 3 miles to a ghetto-area apartment, that was how I carried my Charter Arms 44 Special.
I actually 'dropped-the-bag' once in a parking lot when I was almost home. It seemed to cause a profound change in the agenda of the three young punks who had started to surround me as I crossed a parking lot.
