Winchester 1873 In 22 Long

Post by Shrapnel »

I found a nice Winchester 1873 in 22 long last week and had to buy it. I have had 1873 22's before, but the bores were real bad and they didn't shoot well. This one has a shiny bore and hopefully will shoot. All I need is some 22 long ammo...

Very nice! Now for my dumb question of the day, Will it feed .22 shorts? I've never gotten lucky enough to get my hands on one, But some day I'll stumble across one in my price range.

It may do that as it has an adjustment in the brass elevator for length of case. I don't have any 22 short ammo either, or I would test it.

What a beauty! Congratulations! Does anyone besides CCI and their CB Longs make 22 Longs anymore? I wonder (case sizes being equal) if a 22 LR will chamber? If the chamber is long throated I don't see why not, and I can't imagine an action this stout for caliber a standard velocity 22LR causing any problems. Of course don't mess with the chamber if it don't fit, keep the original value and shoot CB Longs.

I think CCI makes both high-velocity longs and CBs. I don't know of any other company that makes 'non CB' longs. Nice rifle!!
