I think that this is interesting... In June we had 1236 applications for membership (41.5 per day on average) of which 6 or .5% were valid applications. That's ½ of 1%.

I didn't review each one for the source but those unapproved would presumably be spammers. IF there is somebody who can't read the instructions on registering, insists on using a dodgy "handle" and has an e-mail such as "viagraforfun@lover.com" and is still legit he/she doesn't belong here....

PS - that is pretty cleaned up from some, not so much for many others...

I didn't even try to assemble stats... it was (is) just a blizzard of spammers with the occasional "I need activated so as to be able to post" request and the (fortunately rare) "You guys are jerks for not activating my account within 60 seconds of my application even though I never read the post about how to get my application activated and all I really want to do is make everyone else' life miserable" e-mail to liven things up. You'd think that if they can find the e-mail address to cuss us out that they'd be able to find the instructions on how to get their account activated. Of course, I still operate on the assumption that most people actually use their brain for intelligent thought so it is easy to have weird expectations of the general public.
