OT-Got Lovebugs?

Post by Rusty »

I'm not sure how wide the area where love bugs are a problem is but for those that have them I found something today that was most helpful. I was trying to stretch the small amount of windex I had so I mixed 1 pt windex, 1 pt peroxide, 3 pts water. I sprayed this mix on the windshield and it began to foam just like peroxide when it is put on a wound. I let this sit for 10 minutes before I used the w/s wipers and washer on them. Aprox 90% of the bugs that were there came off. Not bad for a roadside pit stop.
I'm not sure what chemical compounds this might make but it worked for me.

I'll give it a try. They have just started appearing here in southeast Texas. Scrubbing them off of the car is definitely not something I am looking forward to. Thanks for the tip.

Boy this brings back memories. Late 60s, early 70s I worked at my fathers gas station right on the beach, east coast of Florida (Ormond Beach).
People would come in and say "I'd like 5 gallons (probably 35-40 cents a gallon?) please and would you get the windshield?" Don't remember the
Lovebugs before that, and I was born and raised there. Wonder what started them coming.

Probably President Bush's fault.

Why are they still a problem, I thought Bobo could fix something like that.

Luckily we don't have many this far north, but 100 miles south of us they sure do. It took a lot of scrubbing to get them all off of my leather jacket last time.

I just got back from a trip to Disney with the family and those things were in full swing. Funny as heck watching the foreign tourists squealing like they were a horde of wasps when they landed on their arm.
