Cap and ball.
After chores the other day I got a rabbit order in and a magpie.
All with a .440" ball from my smooth rifle.
This image shows how small Jess is.
The magpie was a twenty five yard shot, how it never saw me I don't know.

Cool. Are magpies on the menu there?

OK. Are magpies destructive? I am just curious. You usually post pictures of things you shoot which are for food or ones of predators.

Yes sir, they rob song birds nests and ground nesting birds nests. They are numerous over here.
I see them as a predator.
Thanks.

Re: Cap and ball.
Sing a song of sixpence
A pocket full of rye
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened
The birds began to sing
Wasn't that a dainty dish
To set before the king.
The king was in his counting house
Counting out his money
The queen was in the parlour
Eating bread and honey
The maid was in the garden
Hanging out the clothes
When down came a blackbird
And pecked off her nose

Nicely done, Nath.
And properly attired, as usual.

Nath,
You never cease to amaze and impress me. You take great pictures. Your prowess afield is amazing and your knowledge of your local wildlife is truly fascinating. You are a true naturalist. Oh, and a great dog trainer as well. The progress I see that you have made with Jess is awesome.

Re: Cap and ball.
I compete at Friendship, IN in the NMLRA National matches with my flintlock 40 cal Rifle.
While there, on the Primitive range and on our Woodswalk course I have had the pleasure of being schooled by smoothbore shooters who know what they are doing and I have to admit that out to 75 yds or so, the smoothbores don't give up anything to a rifle. Our friend Nath is obviously one of those who knows his stuff.
Congratulations on another good day in the field and thanks for sharing.
