358 rebore?

Post by 375hh1973 »

I have a BLR stainless/Mossy Oak brush. Its a 308. It wears a Leupold 2.5-8x36 and is a great gun. I have the itch for something different and have heard good things about JES reboring. I think a .358 would be a cool gun. As would a .338 federal. Any experience with JES?

JES has a good rep for his reboring. I would check with him to see if he deals with the newer BLR's.

Jes is a good man to do any rebore, but, no matter who does a rebore, they ALL have a minimum barrel wall thickness @ the muzzle of .125", which mean that the muzzle OD of the barrel to be rebored must be a minimum of about .608" - so check the muzzle OD of your rifle first, to see if it can be done at all.

I had a .30-06 Model 70 Featherweight that was a non-starter for a rebore to .35 Whelan because it had a muzzle OD of only .500".

I talked to JES about doing same thing a while back (thinking of going up to .338 fed)
He said he either needed a BLR Takedown model, or an old steel receiver model to do the conversion.
I never followed through with it, my .308 doesn't fall into either category, no sense in buying an old model or new model and convert, I would just buy the .358 version.

But he said it was doable, it was cheap (I thought, something like $350?) and quick.

I did have JES convert a Marlin 336 to 35-30/30 awhile ago. Haven't done much shooting but that's going to change soon since I got picked for a moose hunt this October. He's a nice guy to talk to, knows his stuff and his turnaround is really quick. You won't be disappointed!

I had JES rebore an inaccurate Ruger GSR from .308 to a very accurate .358. He did an excellent job with a very quick turn around time for minimal cost. I have a 336 Texan .30-30 that will become a .38-55 in the near future. 1886.

I have a 1974 94 Winchester 30-30 that he rebored to 38-55 and it is a real deer killer, one shot put her down. Could not be more satisfied.
