You made me look. The standard is a straight grip - albeit in what looks like beech or other non-walnut wood.

That's great! Now, if I could just find a 39a saddle ring...

Re: Chiappa Cloned Marlin 39a Deluxe ? ?
I have a Chiappa Double Badger, an over/under 22mag/410. The workmanship is top knotch. Machining shows very close tolerances, so tight it was stiff to open at first. Several grouse and three or four snowshoe wabbits later it's getting better. Nice walnut and blued steel. Better quality than Savage's current offering. My opinion....
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I like the straight stock version the best. The one thing that I did notice is the front sight / barrel band looks like the plastic unit Henry uses on it's 22 rifles. I couldn't tolerate that.

I read a review on that one some time back and there was something about it that removed it from consideration. I don't remember what it was but it stopped me in my tracks. A real bummer like an aluminum receiver with fake CCH or something like that and cast aluminum or plastic barrel bands and front sight?

If you like the real 39a you will most likely find lots of faults in a new copy. There never the same. You can look ahead but never go back..
if you follow the link he posted you will see the straight stock and saddle ring model under more views.

Barrel bands & sights are an E-Z-peazy fix, and methinks an alloy receiver doesn't make a whole lot of difference with a .22RF.
I like the straight grip version better than the Deluxe, too - because IMO the pistol grip area of the Deluxe's stock looks too beefy/arkward.

The checkering pattern on the forearm is awful!
And what is the "superior wood" with which the deluxe model is stocked?

A class way to go would be to buy a good solid but not so pretty real 39a and send it to Turnbull for the treatment. Did you read the owners manual online? It sounds like they rake you over the coals to get any warranty work done.

I like the looks way BETTER than the 39a - the 'originals' seem too skinny for such long guns...

Re: Chiappa Cloned Marlin 39a Deluxe ? ?
Looks like a cheaply made toy. 18.5" barrel...no thanks. Chiappa quality...no thanks. Not even close to a 39A, but for the takedown receiver design.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: Chiappa Cloned Marlin 39a Deluxe ? ?
Hmm. Have had the M 39A running around in the back of my mind for quite a while now, but don't want a Remline. Chiappa quality has been pretty good on all their guns that I've seen...

Or, just get a 39 Truck Gun.....Maybe just me, but they don't have to be pretty.Chuck 100 yd wrote:A class way to go would be to buy a good solid but not so pretty real 39a and send it to Turnbull for the treatment. I spent well over a decade with the M 39A running around in the back of my mind. Just could never get myself to pay what the good used ones were worth along the way. Kept telling myself " it's just a tin can plinker / occasional squirrel gun , I already have two other .22 s . that can do that,"mikld wrote:Hmm. Last year I found one and just broke down and bought it. Probably paid too much ( not much less than the new chiappa ) But now that I have it and love it , I wouldn't trade that 58 year old rifle for even two of those new ones.

Re: Chiappa Cloned Marlin 39a Deluxe ? ?
I wonder if the dimensions are similar enough the Marlin barrel bands would fit? If so that might be a quick way to get rid of the chunky looking ones on it.
