Trying to help a neighbor out who has a Browning BLR in 308 and has lost the 4 rd detachable magazine. He says it's an older gun from the 70s and would like to buy a replacement one for it, but claims (through hearsay) that mags for the older rifles are different from ones being manufactured today. Is this info correct or incorrect? If the magazines are indeed different, where could one for a vintage BLR be found?
On another note (but the same neighbor) here is one more request. He has just inherited a nice Winchester Model 12 pump shotgun (mfg 1952) from his father but it's missing the buttplate. I believe the correct original buttplates for these are hard rubber in style. Where can original ones be found? Vintage Gun Grips has repros IIRC, but since it's a family heirloom, my suggestion to him is to go with an original if possible.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Browning BLR magazine & WIn Model 12 buttplate questions
.
Older BLR (pre-BLR-81) magazines (.243, .308, .358 = samey-samey) are usually found online, at Ebay, gunbroker, and assorted other venues - they are pricey though, but nothing else will fit.
AFAIK, none of the parts vendors would have an original BP, just repops.
If a gennie could be found, it's a long shot as to whether it would fit his stock (all were individually fitted).
He could try Wisner's Obsolete Parts, or Bob's Gun Parts.

Re: Browning BLR magazine & WIn Model 12 buttplate questions
I bought a BP for a Guy about a year ago. It was an original and didn't fit. Come to find out the stock had been shortened. I'm sure He still has it but I am ;eaving on vacation tomorrow and wont be able to see Him till I get back. It was an original BP and I mot certainly need to be reminded if U don't find something.

Re: Browning BLR magazine & WIn Model 12 buttplate questions
I bought my pre-81 BLR spare mag on eBay... had to pay just over $200, after lurking for months to find one less than $250.
Sure wish they held 5 rounds instead of 4...

Somehow I scored an early BLR mag for $40 but have seen them go for $375.
