Post by t.r. »

This photo was sent by a friend. I have no info to share about the details of the hunt.

30-30 is a keeper!

Wow, you think a deer that was carrying a 30/30 would have been able to defend itself.

Impossible. I thought the 30-30 was supposed to be too underpowered for deer?

Very nice buck. Certainly not taken in California.

Looks very much like a pic on MO under the heading "Long Range 30-30" in which CaptainMal claims to have taken the 8 point deer in Georgia with a Hornady FTX bullet and Hodgdon Leverevolution powder.

Are you sure that the buck was taken with that anemic, underpowered .30-30? Why, we all know that it takes at least a 180 grain bullet at 3,500 fps to take a deer, or at least that is what the gun magazines tell us.   One roll of the eyes wasn't enough. Nice buck!

As I recall, none other than the the great Chuck Yeager had to use a .50BMG from a low flying P-51.

I figure if men like him gotta do it that way, that must be the RIGHT way.

If that deer had been carrying his rifle instead of slinging it he might have stood a chance!
