OT: First firearm
For Christmas I bought my 7.5 year old Granddaughter Ava a Marlin .22lr single shot rifle. Here are some pics of her Christmas day.
Can you see how excited she was to receive this?
We went to the range today with this Marlin and a well used new to me Remington 572 .22 pump. My 1st pump action. We had a blast.

That first picture is priceless, with the "keep out of reach of children" in bold red print. Some leftist somewhere is screaming at the monitor right now.

That's great! A brick of .22LR's in her stocking would have been the icing on the cake!

+1 ... love it. That's going to be some fun teaching her to shoot it.Otto wrote:That first picture is priceless, with the "keep out of reach of children" in bold red print. Some leftist somewhere is screaming at the monitor right now.

Pretty precious! Looks like she DOES have some cartridges there by her left elbow. The complete package!
Also like the way the dog comes over to check out the new .22.
Like someone above said, smiles all around!

Fine gift for Christmas, ya done good.
I taught my Daughter about firearms at an early age too. She liked to bird hunt with her Brothers & I. She is quite a shotgunner. Her current Husband bought her for this past B-day a Mossberg Black-auto 12 ga. for home defense.

Way to go grampaw! She'll remember this for the rest of her life. And taking her shooting is even better
If you get the chance, some squirrel hunting would be just the thing once she gets the hang of it. Set her on a stump in a good squirrely area and she should be able to tag two or three in the afternoon. And then the cleaning and cooking - a real experience every kid should have.
Merry Christmas!!

For the next one, get her an AR-15 shorty, or an M1A Scout rifle, just to see that the Libs have a few heart attacks when they hear about it. A few less enemies to deal with politically...! Better yet, a Stryker shotgun or a full auto of some sort. My kids' favorite gun is a CAR-15 with .22LR adaptor - low recoil, indestructible if dropped, intuitive sights, and looks cool. Upgrade to .223 when they are ready. Cool stuff.

Way to go Grandpa!
It's a good thing for both of y'all that grins are not terminal. Otherwise we'd be contributing to a flower fund for both of you!.
Maybe y'all will be able to go out for the makings of squirrel gravy before the season ends. I have to admit that I envy you your new hunting partner.
Y'all have fun!
BTW, before I lost 40 pounds and trimmed my beard to a Van Dyke, we'd have looked enough alike folks would have though we were near kin.

Re: OT: First firearm
Ava is 7 1/2. She lived with us full time for her 1st 7 years and visited her mom on weekends. Her mom, our oldest, finally manned up enough to be a full time parent along with her new husband in June.
Anyways she and I have been shooting together since she was 5. I started both of mine about 5. Her mom and step dad live on 40 acres in PA just outside Hancock MD. They hunt, boat and fish all the time. Ava's already helped skin several deer and rabbits and gutted fish. Quite the outdoors type.
I think we'll be able to get to the range again tomorrow. Oh, and she'll never hurt for .22 shells. I'll keep her well supplied. When I pass from this world my will will leave the vast majority of my firearms to her, in trust if need be.

Very true.
but if anyone saw us side by side with our full size and full white beards, they'd think we were blood family as well as Masonic Brothers. I'll try to find a photo from a couple of years ago and show you what I mean.

YK,
That picture is too cute for words! Got that little southern belle off to a good start I see.
What gun is that??? I had no idea you could get a pink stock. So tell us a bit about the gun and the scope. That whole package looks great together.
The little guy in that background with the camo pajamas looks like he's not neglected either! What gun did you start him off with?
Geoff
