Greetings all:

As this Holiday Season approaches, I realize that I don't do enough to thank the brave men & women who are serving our country every day. But reading this post below, gave me a great idea...

See: http://leverguns.sixgunner.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=36481

If the moderators and JReed himself are OK with this idea -- then let's use this forum to pledge funds toward the purchase of a USMC Non Commissioned Officers Sword for Jeremy!

Without too much thought, here's how this could work...

(a) I'll start off with a personal PLEDGE of $20.00 to get this going.

(b) Other forum members are invited to pledge their own $20.00, (or even $10.00 if funds are tight), and we'll all aim to reach the $400.00 that Jeremy's wife needs to buy him the USMC Non Comm sword he wants.

(c) Please note -- Forum members won't actually send in any money until we hit at least $300.00 minimum.

(d) Once we hit the $400, I'll post my mailing address and ask all forum members who made PERSONAL PLEDGES to mail their payments to my attention. As an NRA-Life-Member and the son of a proud WWII Veteran (335th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force -- home of the Debden red-nosed P51 Mustang's), I hereby PROMISE you & Jeremy that all funds collected will go directly to JReed to buy the sword.

(e) We can use the replies to this post to track the $$ pledged. And if the response is too great, then any excess >$400 will be donated to a veterans-related cause that Jeremy himself selects.

(f) Jeremy will, of course, be asked to supply pictures of the sword once the purchase is complete! Seeing Jeremy in his dress uniform with the sword would be a nice touch too, but not a requirement...

So for all the vets and non-vets alike, will you join in this worthy cause?

If not now, when? If not this cause, which one? If not you, who?

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your consideration.

If there is excess $ you can send it to Fisher House They build houses next to millitary hospitals for sevice members and familys to have a place to stay while undergoing treatment so they dont have to spend lots of money living out of hotel rooms. We used the one at the Balboa Naval Hospital When our youngest was sick when he was 3weeks old. They are a life saver and alowed us to worry about our son and not where we were going to stay.

Just checked on the Marine Corps Exchange site.

Gents,

I will give $10.00.

I have many friends & family that have served in various branches of the U.S. military. My paternal grandfather served with the Tank Destroyers in Germany, during WWII. He was Lester Hardin Hagler, and he helped to liberate prison camps. My maternal grandfather was Russell Miletello, and he tried to enlist with one glass eye. They would not take him, so he built PT boats for Higgins, at City Park, in New Orleans, during WWII. My late father, Barry C. Hagler, was drafted into the Vietnam War, though he tried to enlist first. He served with the Army, doing some demolition work, and died 3 years ago from lung cancer, probably due to Agent Orange exposure. My step-father, Louis Mullet, was in the Marine Reserve, after he graduated from high school in 1955, but did not see any action. ...and on, and on...

I want to thank all of you who have served, and are serving, for this Great Country of ours.

Shawn

UPDATE: As of 9:30 PM EST Monday 12/17/07

* * * We have topped $550 and a couple of other forum members have also offered their support! * * *

As JReed himself said... WOW!

Thank you to all for your generous pledges of support for this worthy cause!

Any excess funds over the $460 for the sword (is there any tax or shipping?), or any other pledges made after this posting will be donated to the Fisher House for Vets and their families, per Jeremy's request. It was great for him to share he had a personal connection with that group; it feels good to know that he knows where that donation will go and what it will help to achieve.

At this point, I believe it's time to start collecting the pledges that have been made...

(a) I will keep a full accounting of all the funds received, and will share that with Hobie when all this is completed, just so all is on the "up and up".

(b) Please INCLUDE YOUR USER NAME when you send in your pledge, as that is how we will track this -- not to track "you" per se -- but to track ME, so I can fully account for all pledges made.

(c) Forum Members who want to donate by PayPal can do so using my home e-mail address: "4Hubbs AT tidewater DOT net" (Just remember to eliminate the extra SPACES and change CAPS to an "@ and .") I will cover any fees deducted by PayPal, when it's time to withdraw funds donated.

(d) Others who wish to send a personal check, bank check or money order can mail it to me at this address: Darryl Hubbard, c/o Project Sword, 33 Keene Woods Road, Damariscotta ME 04543.

(e) We'll give everyone 2 weeks to get their pledges in, and I will keep this posting updated once per week with how we're doing (again, please include your USER NAME).

(f) Later on, I will also post an HONOR ROLL to recognize all the kind forum members who answered the call.

(g) Lastly, at some point, we'll need to know where to mail the funds to Jeremy -- and of course, we'll need to see that picture of him in his dress blues with that shiny new SWORD!

(h) And Jeremy, if I may be so bold... When you share this story with your children and others, please tell them this was not an act of charity -- but one of GRATITUDE.

Did I miss anything?

Any concerns?

You guys are great!

I am overwhelmed by the response... It does this old heart good to be a part of this.

Sorry this is so long but I wanted to make sure this didnt get lost.

First I wanted to say thank you. I can not express my feelings on this as meer words are to small and insignificant to give justice to what this means to me. I copied the above so that you all would not be forgoten even though I will never ever forget.

Forever Greatefully Yours
Jeremy Reed

P.S. I will post a picture post with lots and lots of pics when I get it.

Me, too. Paypal would work great, and I'll gross up so you net the $20

As JReed himself said... WOW![/size=4]

(f) Later on, I will also post an [orange]HONOR ROLL[/orange] to recognize all the kind forum members who answered the call.

(g) Lastly, at some point, we'll need to know where to mail the funds to Jeremy -- and of course, we'll need to see that picture of him in his [navy]dress blues[/navy] with that shiny new SWORD!

(h) And Jeremy, if I may be so bold... When you share this story with your children and others, please tell them this was not an act of charity -- but one of GRATITUDE.

Did I miss anything?

Any concerns?

You guys are great![/size=3]

I am overwhelmed by the response... It does this old heart good to be a part of this.
