Barrel length and velocity differences: 3 .357s chrono'd

Post by pharmseller »

I got a LNIB Winchester 94 AE Trapper SRC in .357 mag. recently (http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=12816).

I chrono'd a load today comparing a Marlin 1894C, a Browning 92 SRC, and the Trapper, all using American Eagle 158 gr. JSP .357 mag.
The results:

Seven feet from chrono, 10 shots each.

Trapper: Average 1707, high 1731, low 1681, ES 49, SD 17.

Marlin: Average 1704, high 1718, low 1683, ES 35, SD 12

Browning: Average 1733, high 1759, low 1691, ES 68, SD 22

Not a nickel's worth of difference from 16" through 20".

That Trapper is the bee's knees in portability. Depending on where I deer hunt this year, I might be carrying her!

Did the same thing today with a Ruger 4 5/8s and two Marlins 18 1/2" and 20" - shorter was faster 1700 fps + not by much. PMC JSP 158. Pics later.
