Unfortuntely we lost Ben Johnson in 1996. He was one of the finest western character actors in Hollywood. He won an Oscar for his supporting role in "The Last Picture Show".

I would put the metal plate on. Then I would get an inexpensive rubber slip on pad to use when I take it to the range. The pad can be then used on any of your other rifles too, but you still keep the original look of your guns when it's off.

Wouldn't it be neat to take a metal detector through that meadow and maybe find one of those 5 in one blanks from the Winchester in Wayne's hand. It's raining on the central Oregon coast. Low 40's to low 50's. And like Steve Collins said, it's typical. Yesterday about 2 1/2" at our house. Makes you really enjoy it when the sun comes out in the spring. We love it here.

The frame will have the gate serial number stamped on it under the grips. The gate/frame serial number does not match the serial number of the gun because those parts were finished before the serial number was applied, and the factory needed to keep them together before the final assembly.

It is against Federal law to ship any kind of ammo through the U.S.P.S. ! You are stuck with U. P. S. (Unlimited Parcel Smashers) and I do believe they also get a surcharge, but I'm not positive on that though.

I looked in Williamson's book. I did not find anything about removing locking lugs on any gun he tested. He did try to blow up an '86 with 60 gr. 3031 and a 250 gr. jacketed bullet! It did not blow!

Almost all brass framed rifles will strech over time. Usuing light loads will slow that stretch down, and the receiver will last for years. The half cock hammer notch does work with the single or double set trigger. A broken half cock notch may be your problem.

-10% might not be enough. Since the powder is unknown, the safest thing to do is discard it. You are only talking a few bucks here. I certinally wouldn't want to take the chance on destroying a $1000.00 + gun in order to save $3.00 worth of powder.
