When you chamber a loaded round, do you see evidence of the rifling biting into the bullet? I did on my Marlin 336A in .35 Rem. with cast bullets, until I had a gunsmith throat my chamber. That corrected the problem in my rifle. jd45

My first handgun was a Stallion 45 made by Nichols out of Kilgore, Texas. It had cartridges you could take apart & put a round cap in the bottom half. Mt first rifle was some wierd-lookin thing, a nickel-plated 1873 Winchester with a pistolgrip stock. I didn't like it too much. Guess what,.........

I like Ubertis, I have an 1873 Sporting Rifle in .45 Colt, but I have to say I think what you're asking of an 1873 SA is a little beyond its capabilities, both strength & sight-wise. This is not to say that a 300gr@1000fps load would instantly cause a Kaboom, but would punish it & shorten it...

If I were you I'd get LEE Factory Crimp Die for the caliber, so you can seat your bullets a little deeper, rather than in the cannelure, to avoid bumping into the rifling, which won't increase pressures. jd45

This may be an extremely minor point. I think the model is a 36A, not 336A.
